The Caribbean Sea

Divergent flow aloft and a nearby shear line continues to enhance the development of showers and isolated thunderstorms across the Leeward and Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The area of high moisture will migrate westward, enhancing the chances of heavy rainfall over Hispaniola through the next couple of days. A earlier scatterometer satellite pass show fresh to locally strong trades north of the shear line in the NE Caribbean.

Fresh to strong winds are also noted in the south-central Caribbean Sea with the strongest winds off the NW coast of Colombia. Fresh to strong winds are also occurring off the southern coast of Hispaniola, Windward Passage and in the lee of Cuba. Moderate to locally fresh trades are found in the rest of the central and eastern Caribbean, while gentle to moderate winds prevail elsewhere. Seas of 4-6 ft are present E of 80W, while seas of 2-4 ft are prevalent elsewhere.

For the forecast, high pressure over the central Atlantic will support moderate to fresh trade winds across the eastern and central Caribbean through mid week pulsing to strong off Colombia mainly at night. A weak cold front will move into the Yucatan Channel late Tue then stall over the far northwest Caribbean Wed and Thu.

On Ambergris this morning we have a calm sea around our barrier reef from an Eastern 5 mph breeze. It looks like rain on the horizon. Today's expected high temperature is 88f.

The main cool air bubble has now rolled past and the easterly Caribbean winds taken over again. But still a lot of cloud around, some sunshine in a few places. Only a few areas of light rain, mainly out at sea.

Looks as if today will be mainly dry but cloudy, some sunshine a s a small chance of a little rain.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 22°C 71°F Yesterday max. 25°C 76°F Yesterday Rain 0.3mm ( 0") Over Night Rain 1.1mm ( 0.04" )

Probably not much rain about, but the Belize radar is off line. The cool air is still on the surface and still slight movement in from the west, but the main clouds are Caribbean from the east. Light winds will support warm temperatures today.
