Hi all,

I have been reading these boards for a while now and have found the info you all have given on this board to exceptional. It has helped me trememdously in the planning of my vacation.

Which leads me now to my question: Two actually.

First, a boring weather related question - We are planning our trip Oct 26 - Nov 2 how bad is the weather this time of year and what is the bug situation then?

Second, there are several tours we plan on taking and I trying to find just the right one, can anyone give any suggestions on good tour operators on AC. We are looking on doing some Diving, Altun, Lamanai, Mantee, and the Cave tubing with Ian.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Lauri

Lauri:

The dates you chose should be great. I have travelled there on those sames dates for the past 2 years. It is the end of the hurricane season, but I have been lucky (except in 98). Great weather, not too many bugs on AC, some off keeps the sand fleas at bay for me, other then that - no buggies.

Do the cave tubing and Lamani if you can swing them, they are great trips and worth every minute of your time. Dive as much as you can - the Atolls and Blue Hole are great dives, as well a lot of local places can be really fun to dive too.

Thanks for the info.

After reading of the messages I was a bit worried about the time of year we chose.

Actually we are planning on doing all of the things I mention in my post. At least two days of diving (Turnafee Elbow, shark ray alley and the blue hole)

And we are also doing Altun/Lamanai/and the Mantee tour. We don't plan on sitting around to much, we are going to be very active.

Were staying at the Belize Yacht Club. Has anyone heard is this is a good place to stay or not? We really didn't have a choice, the accomedations part was a gift. So, we weren't going to be picky about where we stayed since it is free.

Is anyone else going to be there Oct 26 - Nov 2??

Belize Yacht Club is pretty nice acco. It's white bread but it's nice. You will be very happy there, I'm sure.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

The BYC is fine, especially since it's a freebie. It's gone through a lot of changes over the years -- condo, time share, hotel, more recently host to an offshore med school -- and just a few days ago it has applied for a major expansion, to something like 150 rooms, with a movie theater and bowling alley. If it goes through it will be one of the two largest hotels in Belize, but those changes are likely a long way off. It has a good location within walking distance of town and the units are attractive. Very nice pool, though there's a seawall rather than a sandy beach.

Keep your fingers crossed about the weather at that time of year. One of the major storms in Belize history, Hurricane Hattie, hit on Halloween, and some other storms have come during that period ... but Belize has had more than its share of storms the last four years, so everyone is hoping things will revert to previous patterns, which is one storm about every 10 years.
