San Pedro Pirates F.C. prepares for FFB Top League's closing season

The island's football club, the San Pedro Pirates, is gearing up for the closing season of the Football Federation of Belize's (FFB) tournament- FFB Top League set to start February 5, 2022. The island's squad is scheduled to play against Caesar Ridge F.C. on February 6th at the Beaton Isidoro Stadium in the capital city of Belmopan. Due to the pandemic, the tournament will host all games in Belmopan with six participating teams- San Pedro Pirates FC, Altitude FC, Caesar Ridge FC, Garden City FC, Verdes FC, and Wagiya SC.

At the closing of the first round of the competition on November 21, 2021, the San Pedro Pirates lost to the Verdes. However, the island squad did well and was among the top three teams in the FFB Top League. The FFB Top League was put in place rather than the Premier League of Belize (PLB) pending a court matter at the Supreme Court of Belize. PLB is expected to take back the aspects of these yearly competitions after they sort out their legal issue. The tournament is FFB's goal to fulfil the requirement of the Fdration Internationale de Football Association- FIFA to be fit for future competitions of The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football or CONCACAF. The San Pedro Pirates have been training for their first match, doing all necessary polishing to improve their game strategy and produce a better outcome at FFB Top League closing season.

San Pedro Pirates starts FFB Top League with a win

The Football Federation of Belize's (FFB) Top League Closing Season 2022 is officially underway, and on Sunday, February 6th, the San Pedro Pirates Football Club began their season with a 1-0 victory over Caesar Ridge. The game took place at the FFB Stadium in the Capital City of Belmopan. San Pedro Pirates will be facing Verdes on February 26th at the Ambergris Stadium at 6:30PM. Only a limited number of fans will be allowed to enter the stadium.

The game against Caesar Ridge was a tight one, with neither of the teams giving up much ground. The majority of the match saw the island team pressuring Caesar Ridge. Then, at minute 37 of the first half a set of passes between Mario Chimal and Horace Avila set young player Ian Pou in front of the Caesar Ridge's goal. Pou calmly handled the play and with a strong cross shot, scored San Pedro's winning goal. This was the only goal of the game, giving San Pedro Pirates their first three points of the FFB Top League Closing Season.

San Pedro Pirates nets another win and advance in the FFB Top League

On Sunday, February 20th, the San Pedro Pirates netted another victory after defeating Altitude FC 1-0 at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) stadium in the capital city of Belmopan. The island team is now preparing to host a home game on Saturday, February 26th, against the league's top team Verdes at the Ambergris Stadium at 6:30pm.

San Pedro Pirates' latest win has catapulted the island boys to second place in the competition. This win was not easy as they faced a strong team, Altitude, who did not give the island players many opportunities in the game's first half. At the end of the first 45+ minutes, the match was goalless. The island squad was more aggressive in the second half and further pressured the Altitude defense. These efforts were still proving difficult to get through the Altitude's barrier. Then, during minute 71, a Pirate centered a ball into the goal zone, perfect for a header. Altitude's goalkeeper left his safe area and went for the ball. However, Alejandro Carillo made it first to the ball and headed it into the goal, scoring for San Pedro. This was the only goal for the match, and San Pedro Pirates returned to the island with another win in its records.

San Pedro Pirates fall short in home game against Verdes

In their first home game of the closing season of the Football Federation of Belize's (FFB) Top League, the island's football team, the San Pedro Pirates, lost 1-0 after facing the Verdes. The anticipated match was played on Saturday, February 26th, at the Ambergris Stadium in front of spectators permitted to attend the game.

The game kicked off at 6:30PM, and from the beginning, Verdes took command of the ball. Although San Pedro Pirates played hard and tried to stay on top of the game, Verdes proved a challenge for the island boys. The match's only goal occurred at minute 15, during the first corner kick in favor of Verdes. Mexican National Carlos Lopez playing for Verdes found the gap and headed a ball that San Pirates' goalkeeper could not reach. This gave Verdes the victory, and San Pedro experienced their first loss in the FFB Top League's closing season. Verdes continues leading in the standings in the tournament.

San Pedro Pirates still one of the strongest teams in FFB Top League

The island's premier team, the San Pedro Pirates, are in second place in the current standings of the Football Federation of Belize's (FFB) Top League despite losing one home game and ending their recent match in a draw on Saturday, March 5th, against Garden City FC from Belmopan City. The team played their first home game of the FFB's Top League closing season on Saturday, February 26th, against Verdes at the Ambergris Stadium. Islanders showed up in numbers to support the island boys. This support was not enough, and at the end of the 90+ minutes match, Verdes returned home with a 1-0 victory over the San Pedro Pirates.

The following Saturday, the Pirates hosted another home game against Belmopan's Garden City, losing their second home game. Although they had plenty of opportunities to end the match with a win, it did not happen. At the end of the long whistle, neither of the teams scored, and the game ended goalless 0-0. The island boys maintain second place with ten points. Verdes, who won the opening season, led with 15 points. In third place is the Altitude team with nine points, followed by Garden City, Wagiya, and Caesar Ridge. Games continue this weekend, and San Pedro Pirates will be traveling to Belmopan on Sunday, March 13th, to challenge Caesar Ridge at the FFB Stadium.
