The Caribbean Sea

A cold front meanders southwestward from east-central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras, then continues as a stationary front across north-central Honduras. Scattered showers are occurring along and up to 50 nm SE of this boundary. Convergent trade winds are causing similar conditions at the SW basin, near the coast of Costa Rica and Panama. Fresh to strong NE winds and 6 to 8 ft seas are observed behind the cold front over the NW corner of the basin. Gentle to moderate easterly winds with seas at 2 to 4 ft are found ahead of the cold front between the Honduras-Costa Rico border and the Island of Youth. Fresh to strong NE to ENE trades with seas at 5 to 8 ft are present over the S central and SE basin, N of Colombia and Venezuela. Moderate to fresh E trades and seas of 4 to 6 ft prevail for the rest of the Caribbean Sea.

For the forecast, fresh to strong northeast to east trade winds will pulse tonight in the south-central Caribbean near the coast of Colombia. Fresh to strong winds will remain steady Sun through Wed night. The cold front will move across the rest of the northwestern Caribbean today and dissipate by Sun. Winds will diminish to moderate to fresh speeds by tonight. High pressure building in behind the front will increase northeast to east winds across the northwestern and central Caribbean from Sun night through at least Tue night.

The cool air bubble is still over the Yucatan and causing the Caribbean winds to be diverted southwards. That together with the high level from the SW is resulting in a lot of cloud. The rain is now over the sea just off shore.

Looks as if it will be mainly cloudy for mos, for much of the day, but not much rain expected.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 23 °C 73 °F Yesterday max. 33 °C 91 °F Yesterday Rain 7 mm ( 0.3 ") Over Night Rain 1 mm ( 0.04 " )

The latest satellite images show the cold front that extends from the Atlantic and cross over the eastern center of Cuba arriving to the north coast of Honduras. The weak mass of cold air covers the states of eastern Mexico, Peninsula of Yucatan, Cuba and the north of the countries of Central America Guatemala, Belize and the north of Honduras. It is not a strong cold front but we feel the change of temperatures. For today the rains will continue over southern Mexico, the eastern part of Cuba, parts of Northern Guatemala and Belize, and the North coast of Honduras.

Present Condition: Mostly cloudy as the cold front is now centered in the south and to the east of Belize. Less cloudy in the north. Mostly cloudy in San Pedro right now. A gusty northeasterly airflow prevailing. A small craft caution is in effect for occasionally gusty winds and locally rough seas.

24hr Forecast: Cloudy skies today with sunny breaks. Tonight skies will be partly cloudy. Only isolated showers can be expected to develop mainly along southern coastal areas and offshore.

Outlook: For Sunday afternoon thru to Monday afternoon is for fair and warm weather showers if any will be little to none.
