The Caribbean Sea

There is a Gale Warning off Colombia.

Fresh to strong NE winds persist in the Windward passage and in the lee of eastern Cuba. Similar wind speeds are over the south- central Caribbean near the coast of Colombia, and in the Gulf of Venezuela. Mainly fresh E winds are over the NW Caribbean affecting mainly the waters N of 20N and W of 84W. Moderate to fresh trades are elsewhere. Sea heights are 8 to 11 ft near the coast of Colombia, 6 to 8 ft in the Windward passage, 6 to 7 ft in the lee of Cuba, and 3 to 6 ft elsewhere across the basin.

Shallow moisture, embedded in the trade wind flow, is noted across the basin producing isolated to scattered passing showers. These patches of low level moisture, are more concentrated between Haiti and Jamaica in association with the remnants of a frontal boundary. Similar cloudiness is noted over parts of Central America.

For the forecast, the pressure gradient between high pressure N of the Caribbean Sea and the Colombian low will continue to support fresh to strong trades over the south-central Caribbean near the coast of Colombia through Sat. Minimal gale force winds will pulse just offshore Colombia at night through Wed night. Pulsing fresh to strong northeast winds are also expected in the lee of Cuba and Windward Passage into late night. Fresh to locally strong east to southeast winds will pulse in the Gulf of Honduras at night into Thu night.
