Learn more about one of our newest residents: Neo the Neotropical River Otter!

Neo was first brought to the Zoo in late April, after being found alone on the banks of the Sittee River. After a week, Neo's weight had increased and he was introduced to water for the first time, with a small pool to paddle in.

After 10 weeks at the zoo, Neo weighs 5.5 lbs (more than 3 times bigger than when he arrived) and is approximately 2.5 feet long. He now eats 3 meals a day including fish, chicken breast, gizzards and liver, and milk replacement formula. Since getting his own pond, he has been spending more time swimming and playing with toys in the water, catching live fish and recently he has started choosing his favorite rocks which he likes to take into the water and play with - a behavior which is often seen in wild otters.
