Sargassum Forecast from July 12 to July 202: Latest satellite observations show an increase in Sargassum over the northwest Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Honduras. Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

Aside from convection associated with the tropical wave along 82W, scattered moderate convection is seen along the north coast of Honduras extending north to 18N. Isolated showers are possible over the eastern part of the sea east of about 69W.

Upper-level cyclonic wind flow covers the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean north of 12N between 60W-80W. High-level clouds cover the area that is from 25N southward between 60W and 70W on the eastern side of the upper level cyclonic wind flow.

The pressure gradient between the Azores high pressure area the comparatively lower surface pressure in the southwestern Caribbean Sea is producing strong to near gale trade winds and wave heights that range from 8-10 ft in the central Caribbean Sea.

Moderate to fresh easterly winds and wave heights that range from 4 feet to 6 feet, are in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Gentle to moderate E to SE winds, and wave heights of 2-4 ft in the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

For the forecast, the Bermuda-Azores High will maintain strong to near gale trade winds over the south-central Caribbean through tonight. The high will weaken Thu allowing for the trade winds to diminish to fresh to strong through the end of the week. Fresh to strong east to southeast winds in the Gulf of Honduras will continue through Thu night before diminishing. Large NE to E swell is anticipated to begin impacting the tropical Atlantic zones Thu night and continue through early Sun.

A large area of dry and dusty Sahara air is moving across the tropical Atlantic, suppressing the development of showers and storms. This is backing up fairly calm weather conditions across much of the basin.

July 13, 2022 - Full Moon, Supermoon

The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Buck Moon because the male buck deer would begin to grow their new antlers at this time of year. This moon has also been known as the Thunder Moon and the Hay Moon. This is also the second of three supermoons for 2022.

It is referred to as a supermoon because the Moon will be near its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual.

Presently, there is some very strange weather, but mainly in the mid-high level winds, presently coming down over the Gulf and over Merida, but, at the same time, there is high level moving up from Honduras over the Caribbean and Cancun. This, and the easterly Caribbean lower winds are causing a number of rain showers all over the place. Despite this, the rain in June, was very low and so far low for July.

Looks as if this morning will be a mixture of sunshine, clouds and small patches of rain, possibly for much of the day.

Last Night 26 °C 78°F Yesterday max. 33 °C 91°F Yesterday Rain 0.6 mm ( 0 " ) Over Night Rain 0.1 mm ( 0 " )
