Does anyone have experience with bare boat sailing with TMM ? I have a lot of questions even though we have reservations for mid January.

Thanks for the info. One of our questions is about provisioning. Is it smart to do it ourselves, and can we bring in packaged food with us? We will have a day before we pick up the boat. Also where is a good budget to mid-range place to stay before and after our charter.
We have sailed BVI, will Bze be much different, as to navageting and reading the water.

navigating is quite specific in bze compared to the bvi's but with gps its a piece of cake.
one person must, however, be designated navigator and remain perpetually vigiliant recording and updating position when moving especially when not in the inner channel. it is relaxed when you do.
freezing your entrees in large ziplock bags works well for us. it allows us to bring the basis for many wonderful and easily put together dishes with lobster, snapper etc which you can usually procure from the fisherman you run across while at anchor.
we make rouxs and sauces and other entrees and freeze them hard and put them in a styrofoam ice chest with a handful of flattened frozen ziplock bags full of water. We then duct tape it real well and check it at the airport.
We then load the food directly into the boats refrigerator (or the hotels)when we arrive (no dry ice allowed on the plane). the food remains frozen for a week or more.
we use the ice chest on the boat to cool the belikins for the day rather than opening the boats refrigerator time and time again.
how long will you be on the boat? which boat is it?

If you are chartering a boat, you have a right to obtain, well in advance of your trip, a complete list of everything that is included, and that certainly includes a detailed description of all navigation and safety equipment and aids.
The only reliable source of info re what's on the boat is what you get from the charter company. You should insist upon this, so that if there is something that you feel is essential that is not included, you can determine if its available for an extra fee, how much it costs, and whether it is even available at all.
If this info is not in the packet you received when you signed up and paid your deposit, insist on getting it.
You should also inquire about travel and weather insurance. Is this available as part of your charter options? If not, you might want to consider purchasing it separately, so that in a worst-case scenario (unusual weather pattern) you don't lose all your money while stuck on land.

I expect the newer cats now have GPS onboard, but ask them..I always carry my hand held anyway just in case..There are several local groceries..And you can find most anything you want but the price is some times a bit high for unusual stuff..We have always operated on the "If you cant find it here you can probly get along just fine without it" theory..Be sure to partake of the local fish and etc.. its great..

Actually....only someone whose spouse just finished sailing a catamaran from the US to Belize (and experienced all kinds of disasters on the way) would write such a response!
(I didn't learn any of this stuff in law school, believe me!)
Just trying to be helpful....
