The Caribbean Sea

Widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms dot the Caribbean waters south of 16.5N between 67W and 85W. The gradient between high pressure across the northwest Atlantic and lower pressure in the SW Caribbean is supporting moderate easterly winds across most of the Caribbean with seas 4-7 ft. In the NW basin, gentle to moderate winds prevail with seas 2-4 ft.

For the forecast, the gradient will support moderate to fresh trade winds over the central Caribbean south of Hispaniola through Sun night, with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere. Fresh winds are expected across the SE Caribbean Sun night through Mon.

Viewing this satellite image, a high atmospheric pressure in the mid levels of a troposphere dominating the region and will prevent the arrival of a cold front to the Yucatan Peninsula, Cuba, and Central America during the next few days.

While to the north of the Gulf of Mexico, a cold front that extends from north Florida to north Veracruz is being blocked by this anticyclone, weather conditions are different in the north, northeast and eastern Mexico where showers and rains have occurred late at night. This cold front will weaken due to the dominance of this anticyclone during the next few days.

The weather will remain dry and stable in much of the region of the Yucatan Peninsula, Cuba, Central America, although some showers, light rains in mountainous areas, coastal areas can occur.

Stable weather conditions and an increase in temperatures is expected to last for the next few days.

The easterly Caribbean winds are fairly consistent, but do have patches of cloud in them and the warm air from the south is still sending up cloud, which is causing patches of rain.

Looks as if today will be largely cloudy, two levels of cloud, with some sunshine patches and scatted patches of rain at any time during the day.
