The Caribbean Sea
The tight pressure gradient between high pressure centered in the
NW Atlantic and lower pressure over Colombia is leading to
moderate to fresh NE to E trades over much of the basin. With the
high nosing SW toward the ridge, winds have increased to strong
offshore Cuba and Hispaniola, in the Windward Passage, and
offshore Colombia. Seas are 5 to 7 ft. Aside from scattered
moderate convection associated with low level speed shear in the
Gulf of Honduras, dry conditions dominate the Caribbean this
morning.
For the forecast, the tight pressure gradient will prevail,
causing moderate to fresh NE to E trades to continue through
tonight, with areas of strong winds in the lee of the Greater
Antilles, the Windward Passage, and offshore Colombia. Winds will
then slowly diminish for the start of next week.
On Ambergris Caye this morning the wind has shifted and is now from the NE at 20 mph. The sea state is rough with a small craft warning. Our expected high temperature for the day is 84 f.
Strange weather, very strong Caribbean winds from the ENE, but no other higher air movements visible, but there are clearly other air masses causing very significant cloud and rain in many places. Small but sometimes very heavy rain patches in any place, particularly Toledo earlier this morning, and still temperatures up in the October temperatures.
Looks as today will continue like yesterday by less patches of heavy rain but still some anywhere, but more sunshine.
Last Night 23 °C 74 °F Yesterday max. 29 °C 85 °F Yesterday Rain 25 mm ( 0.98 " ) Over Night Rain 7 mm ( 0.28 " ) Humidity 84% Pressure 1016.5 mBar hPa
Present Condition: Mostly clear skies except in the deep south. Clear in San Pedro. Gusty and relatively moist airflow prevails. A Small Craft Caution is in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas, especially near showers or thunderstorms.
24hr Forecast: Sunny with cloudy spells during the daytime and cloudy at times tonight. Some showers will affect mostly northern and central areas this afternoon, mainly southern districts tonight, then most areas tomorrow morning. Isolated thunderstorms are also likely.
Outlook: (Sun afternoon - midday Mon) cloudy at times with some showers over most areas Sunday afternoon, then mainly over the south Sunday night; with showers becoming isolated Monday morning.
