The Belize Coast Guard has carried out plenty of successful operations this year, according to their commandant, Rear Admiral Elton Bennett. He explained that the officers were fully engaged year round, but especially during Hurricane Lisa. In addition to that, they've managed to save more than 30 persons who were lost at sea and, since they've taken command of the Joint Intelligence Operations Center, there's been a significant decrease in drug plane landings.
In fact, the last plane landing was reported in early August, when an aircraft was discovered in Crique Sarco. But Admiral Bennett didn't take all the credit, he said it was the collaboration of security forces that have helped to deter the planes.
