The Caribbean Sea

High pressure over the eastern United States extends southward into the Caribbean Sea, maintaining fairly tranquil weather conditions, except for a few pockets of shallow moisture moving through the NW Caribbean as well as the eastern Caribbean. The pressure gradient between the ridge to the north and lower pressures in northern South America sustain mainly fresh to strong easterly trade winds in the central Caribbean south of 20N, with the strongest winds occurring off NW Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela. The seas in these waters are 5-8 ft. Moderate to locally fresh easterly breezes and seas of 3-6 ft are present in the eastern Caribbean. Elsewhere, light to locally moderate easterly winds and slight seas prevail, locally fresh through the Windward Passage.

For the forecast, surface ridging north of the region combined with low pressure over Colombia will continue to support pulsing fresh to strong NE to E tradewinds across the central and SW Caribbean through the remainder of the week and upcoming weekend. Moderate to fresh winds will prevail in the E Caribbean with gentle to moderate winds in the W Caribbean. Moderate, long- period N to NE swell will continue to move into the tropical Atlantic waters for the next several days. A cold front will move into the Yucatan Channel by late Fri and reach from central Cuba to Belize by Sat night, dissipating from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras Sun. Fresh to locally strong winds and rough seas will follow the front.

On Ambergris Caye this morning a Sanpedrano Fishemanman went out for the days catch with his dory and son aboard. The sun came up at 6:19. The wind is from the Northeast at 9 mph. Our expected high is 84.
The charm is still here.

Complicated weather this morning, there is regular easterly Caribbean winds with white clouds coming in, but there is something moving from the north over north Belize, and the surface wind over Belmopan is from the SW "Tiger" wind.

Looks as if today may be highly variable, presently sunshine and clouds, only a few spots of rain, but this may change over the day.

Last Night 22 °C 72 °F Yesterday max. 27 °C 81 °F Yesterday Rain 4.8 mm ( 0.19 " ) Over Night Rain 0.1 mm ( 0.0 " )
Humidity 82% Pressure 1017 mBar hPa

The shortest day of the year is around the 20 - 24 December. Belize has a distorted Sunrise and Sunset pattern.
Earliest Sun set is about 5:15 in late November, but latest Sun rise is about 6:25 in mid January.

There are patches of rain around, patches of thicker Caribbean clouds. There is a stagnant line just off the coast, that appears to be causing Caribbean clouds to form. There is still a slight SW surface wind over Belmopan.

Caribbean Christmas Front
The Caribbean Christmas front is coming! The main storm is building in the United States, and will usher Canadian air all the way into the Gulf of Mexico!

Cooler air will be felt this weekend in the Northern Caribbean, The Bahamas, and Bermuda. The rain chance will be higher as the front arrives on Christmas, especially for: Belize, Mexico, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas.

Weather analysis shows the Junajaw cold front over the Gulf of Mexico, approaching the Peninsula. It will arrive in the next few hours weakening, generating some showers and cool breeze from the north and northeast.
