Belize Weather Forecast: January 4, 2023


General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly clear this morning throughout the country. Clear skies in San Pedro. Generally fair weather will prevail today, then a slight increase in moisture is expected for tomorrow. Cold front No. 21 (Litza) will approach the Yucatan Peninsula between this Thursday and Friday. Starting Thursday, weather associated with a cold front will bring scattered showers and storms across the area.
Advisories: Small Craft Caution for gusty winds and locally rough seas.
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today becoming cloudy at times tonight. Showers, if any, will be brief and isolated today. Then, a few showers will develop late tonight, mostly over the south.
Winds: E-SE, 10-20 kts
Sea State: Choppy - Moderate
Waves: 3-6 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 82
Outlook: Cloudy at times with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms occurring around the country on Thursday, decreasing. Then a few showers will redevelop over the south on Thursday night with isolated activity elsewhere.
Sargassum Forecast from January 3 to January 11: Although, there has been a slight increase in Sargassum over the northwestern Caribbean Sea, the overall total remains low and therefore the risk of sargassum affecting the country will remain minimal for the next few days. San Pedro has a low probability with a minimal impact.

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

Moderate to fresh trades prevail across the east and central Caribbean while gentle to moderate winds are seen over the NW region with the exception of moderate to fresh E-SE winds in the Gulf of Honduras. Locally strong winds also continue across portions of the south-central Caribbean, in the Windward Passage and north of Jamaica, and S of Hispaniola where seas range between 5 to 8 ft.

For the forecast, surface ridging building north of the area and extending to the northern Caribbean will continue to support locally strong winds off the Colombian coast, across the Windward Passage, and south of Hispaniola through Thu, except off Colombia where strong winds will continue to pulse through Sun night. Moderate to fresh trades will prevail across the central and eastern Caribbean, and the tropical N Atlantic through the weekend. Moderate to fresh winds in the NW basin will diminish to gentle to moderate speeds on Thu, then increase to moderate to fresh speeds again on Fri as a weak cold front approaches the area. Winds in the NW Caribbean will diminish back to gentle to moderate speeds on Sun as the front weakens N of the area.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the strong wind will blow the coffee from your cup. The expected high is 86f. The wind is at 18 mph from the East.

Steady easterly Caribbeans winds, but with cloud way out at sea. A few traces of high level winds from the SW. The Caribbean winds are being deflected up near the Cuba straight, there is a hint of cool air coming across the Gulf.

Looks as if today will e mainly sunny, with white clouds developing, a low chance of any rain.

Present Condition: Clear skies throughout the country. Mainly fair and dry conditions will continue this afternoon followed by a slight increase in moisture late tonight into tomorrow morning.

24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny this afternoon with little or no rainfall. Cloudy at times tonight and tomorrow morning with a slight increase in showers mainly along southern and coastal areas.

Outlook: From Thursday afternoon through to midday on Friday is for partly cloudy skies with isolated showers developing.
