Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

The gradient between east-central Atlantic high pressure and relatively lower pressure in the central and eastern Caribbean sections is allowing for moderate to locally fresh trade winds and seas of 4-6 ft to exist in the south-central and eastern sections of the sea. Gentle to moderate northeast to northeast to east trade winds and lower seas of 2-4 ft seas prevail for the remainder of the basin.

For the forecast, gentle to moderate trade winds are expected across most of the basin through Wed as the high pressure weakens and shifts eastward. Winds will increase to between moderate and fresh over the northwestern Caribbean and south of Cuba Wed through late Thu as high pressure builds over the Gulf of Mexico. Looking ahead, fresh to strong NW to N winds will follow a cold front moving into the northwestern Caribbean late Fri. This front will reach from Hispaniola to the southwestern Caribbean by Sat night.

The easterly Caribbean winds are being deflected downwards due to a weak cool air bubble from the north, but that and high level from the west causing clashing and many rain showers, presently most out at sea.

Looks as if today will be mainly cloudy, a little sun perhaps, but scattered rain showers any where at any time.

Present Condition: Partly cloudy, less so in the north. A band of light clouds extends across the middle of the country. Mostly clear in San Pedro. Relatively moist conditions prevail over the area.

24hr Forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells during the daytime and partly cloudy to cloudy at times tonight. A few showers will continue over the cayo district this afternoon, as well as offshore. Elsewhere, showers will be isolated. Then, for tonight and tomorrow morning, showers will be isolated, except for a few more occurring over southern and some coastal areas.

Outlook: For Wednesday afternoon through to midday on Thursday is for generally fair weather to prevail, with isolated showers developing.

Major System Moving In!
A major storm system moving in will bring big changes to the Caribbean this weekend. The storm system is sweeping into California now, with flooding, high winds, and flooding. By the end of the week, it will move into the Gulf of Mexico, and then the Caribbean this weekend - as a "cold" front.
