On the 15th November, 2022 the Senior Court Act was promulgated by the Governor General. By this Act, the Supreme Court of Judicature Act, Chapter 91 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition, 2021 and the Court of Appeal Act, Chapter 90 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition, 2020 were repealed and replaced to provided for new positions within the judiciary to assist in the functioning and administration of the Senior Courts; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

The Senior Court Act provides for the creation of the High Court to replace the Supreme Court of Justice.

In conformity with the Senior Court Act that relate to the function of the High Court and the Court of Appeal, the Hon. Madame Chief Justice, Louise Esther Blenman has instructed that with the commencement of the new legal term, all legal documents filed at the General Registry, Supreme Court of Belize should be replaced with High Court of Belize. This is to be done in accordance with Section 4 of the Senior Court Act, 2022.

As it relates to the Commissioner of the Supreme Court, this is to be replaced with Commissioner of the High Court.
