Belize Weather Forecast: February 2, 2023



General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly clear this morning, a few light clouds, mostly in the southwest and in San Pedro. Relatively dry easterly airflow prevails. Mainly fair weather will continue today, then some changes come late tonight.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today with only isolated showers. Cloudy at times tonight with a few showers over southern districts and some coastal areas.

Waves: 3-5 ft

Outlook: (Fri & Fri night) Cloudy with a few showers over most areas along with isolated thunderstorms.
Sargassum Forecast from February 1 to February 8: Latest satellite imagery show that there continues to be an increase in Sargassum over the area. As a result, there is a medium to high chance that new sargassum mats could affect beaches across the country during the next few days. San Pedro has a high probability with a moderate impact.

The Caribbean Sea

A Gale Warning remains in effect near the coast of Colombia. The subtropical ridge north of the Caribbean Sea sustains fresh to strong easterly trade winds across the Windward Passage and the central Caribbean Sea. The strongest winds are occurring off the higher coastal terrain of Colombia, with 8 to 10 ft wave heights. Gentle to moderate breezes and slight to moderate seas are noted elsewhere.

For the forecast, the strong to near-gale NE winds will persist off the coast of Colombia through Sat night, pulsing to minimal gale force tonight. Fresh to strong easterly trades will persist in the Windward Passage and south of Hispaniola into tonight as well. Moderate to fresh trades are expected elsewhere through Sat. Looking ahead, strong to near-gale force winds will continue to pulse off Colombia Sun and Mon, with light breezes over the northwest Caribbean, and fresh trades elsewhere.

The cool air bubble has not made it across the Gulf, so we have steady easterly Caribbean winds, with patches of cloud, some causing rain in north Belize this morning.

Looks as if today will be mainly sunny, with white clouds developing, a small chance of any rain.

Present Condition: Mostly clear throughout the country including in San Pedro. A few light clouds in the extreme north. Mainly fair weather prevails, but a slight increase in moisture expected late tonight and tomorrow.

24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny this afternoon with only isolated showers. Cloudy at times tonight and tomorrow morning with a few showers over southern districts and some coastal areas.

Outlook: A few showers will continue with the chance for an isolated thunderstorm develiping mainly over coastal and northern areas Friday afternoon and night with periods of rain on Saturday morning.
