just got off the phone
with my sister.. she went out to the Caye today and here is her report.
The back part of the island is completely devastated.. and the streets are
fille dwith about 12 inches of mud..
the generator is completely gone and everything is under water and so they
say they will be out of electricity for maybe 3 months.
Only 3 zincs were left on the roof of the school. so school will be out for a
time also..g ues only the kids are happy there [Linked Image]
According to my brother..Martin Carrasco they had constant rain and strong
winds for 12 hours non - stop.. the eye kept bobbing between Caye Caulker and
San Pedro.. then last night between Caye Caulker and Caye Chapel.

Half of Ms. Dalia's house is gone and one of her vats.. Ms. Ali house is
completely gone.. Marla's house is gone and she has nothing left.. only the
clothes on her back.

Lights posts and electric wires are all over the streets making it hard for
pedestrians to get through to there homes in the back street..
Mr. Bartolo Rodriguez house int he back roof is gone and all stuff damaged
inside.
Dora and Raleigh Marin's house is gone and also Puchi's house up at the split.

Most of the water taxi's had tried to pull their boats into the lagoon in the
back.. they were all found pile dup on top of one another.. some behind Niel
Bradley's place.they lost their outboard motors and boats were broken up..
Ruben Alamina lost his boats and machines.. Rico Novelo Jr. lost his 2 boats
also.
Rogi Zaldivar's place is gone also..

No one lost their lives.. one girl in the back had lost her young infant but
was very lucky to catch it as it came down in the water and was passing by
her.. thank goodness.

BTL was under their new construction for the new site on the back street..
they had a trailer with equipment and stuff for installing the new tower.. a
light post fell on top of it smashing to pieces.

Total it seems to be about 20 houses lost.
The front of the caye has a beautiful white beach left..
At Caye Chapel the new sea wall and new airstrip is gone
My sister Lindy will be going back out tomorrow and taking her digital camera
to get some pictures.. and will send to us. hopefully by tomorrow night.

Many thanks to Ramoncito Reyes that he kept his cell phone alive and used it
well and so they were able to communicate with Belize City and get food and
hlep out there.. curfew is in process from 8 to 6.

well hope you get this out to all and I will keep you updated as I get more
news.. I hope it helps so that people can feel some relief and know what to
help their families or friend with.. clothes, lamps, batteries. candles,
food. and other immediate necessities

Marty, One of the other threads here said that most of the people on Caye Caulker left the island. I haven't been able to find out if this is true or if it is, how they left and to where.Do you have any news about that? I am very concerned about my guy,JIM CRAWFORD as I haven't been able to learn anything about him here.

Hi June, this is Jim's sister Judy Long in San Diego. With everything that has been posted I would imagine that Jim is okay, but I'm sure he must have had some serious property loss, as his boat and belongings are stored on the back side of the island.

It's going to be a few days before phone service is restored so don't know when we will hear from him. We are praying for him and all the folks on Caye Caulker.

My email is [email protected] if you would like to contact me at home. Take care, Judy

Dear Carms:

Thank you sincerely for that report on Caye Caulker. It opens my eyes to the situation there. I understand both my sisters left the island yesterday. Is this normal, do you know? Can you please ask Lindy if she can check what damage there is to my house? Or my trailer? I am dying to know. If she can take digital photographs for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I would repay her the kindness whenever I can. Take care and hope YOUR family is good too. My e-mail address is [email protected]

I am doing this quick because I'm leaving to go to Caye Caulker. Caye
Caulker is really damaged - extremely. There is a lot of work to be done
out there. My grandmother Sista house roof went off so she has a lot of
work. We don't know how much of her things has been damaged. Since she
was here, she will be going also to Caye Caulker right now with me. My
parents, son and the rest of the family they are all fine and doing OK. So
far, my grandmother's house is the only one that I know of that have major
damage. The hotel is fine and so is my parents house. No damage was done
to either of them.

I will write you
to tell you more in details when I come back from the island which will be
tomorrow or day after.

best regards,

Zeidita
This message is from Tom and Zeida Young's daughter, Zeidita. She was in the
city for the storm, but her little boy Richard was out on Caye Caulker with
Tom and Zeida.
