I have read so many posts saying to take half the clothes you think you'll need and twice the $$$.I really need to inform my 9 companions about how much cash they will need on hand. We will be staying 7 days and are an active bunch. Also, do most places accept MC and V? Ballpark figure will be fine.

$100.00US per day per person.
You can eat and drink well, plus take snorkeling trips. If you do mainland tours you will need to take more money.

Kathy,

What kind of activities is your group into, diving, sunset cruise,Myan ruins, cave tubing or other mainland tours? Are you asking how much cash per day after airfare and hotel?

IMAHO Chloe is right,$100 U.S is a good estimate, especially if you imbibe or like fancy restuarants. I would include in excess of that your tours and diving, which do take credit cards.

We imbibe, like fancy restaurants, snorkel, tube, mayan tour...of couse Casa Tortuga has a cook and we have paid for a certain amount of food. We plan to rent wave runners and parasail, if this helps you any. Eating at fancy restaurants will be minimal.

Also, forgot to say this does not include air/accom. We are planning to do the day dive trip. Air and accom are already paid.

If you search on this website under the tour operators, most of them say how much each tour is. So do a sample itinerary for yourselves and figure out approximately what tours you will be going on and how much that will cost. Then factor in that your meals, assuming you aren't eating at the kiosks or Dos Cocos every night, could be in the range of $20 US. and whatever lunches and brekkies you might eat out, $7-10. Then figure out how many alcoholic drinks you expect to average a day at $5 a piece. (Sure you can drink for less and may well do so but there's tipping and all sorts of things, the money just seems to slip away when imbibing).

In any event, for myself, I figure out the activities that I expect to pay for and then $50 US per day on top of that. Some days I spend less than $50 and others a lot more. My booze factor can be high . . . first you think you will just have one beer but that tasted like another and then you go home and get ready for dinner. You might have a drink or two in your room while getting ready, then you'll have a drink or two at dinner, then it's time to go to Jaquar's or Iguana's where you will think you will only have a couple more . . . and then it's 4 am and you don't have any money left . . . wink

Of course, if you are a teetotaller, you can easily do it on less than $50/day.

What do you usually spend when you are on a vacation? I haven't found that my budget differs greatly from place to place, unless we are trying to compare apples to oranges (ie: Grand Cayman)

$100.00 US a day is a good start. less if you are very frugal, more if you dive and like expensive food. Wauraguma on middle street is a great place for very good very cheap food. tacos are three for a belize dollar. chicken burritos are two belize dollars. lobster is 22 belize dollars. the lady is named Maria and she and her daughter are very nice. Maria only speaks spanish but her daughter speaks English also.
