I'm flying into Belize City.

Has any one taken a taxi to the dock and then taken a water taxi to AC?
How much does it cost (both water and land taxi)?

How late do the water taxis run?
I've heard that the may not run after dark.

Is it worth saving the money compared to taking the plane hop?

Can anyone recommend a good Dive Operator?
(small, fast boats, good dive masters, etc.)

thanks in advance...

I'm not current on taxi and water taxi prices, but in the past you could save approximately $30-ish US by taking a regular ferry boat run to Ambergris Caye. Personally, I don't think the savings is enough to risk sea conditions or plane vs. boat schedule. I have never heard of a night water service. The plane ride is beautiful and Tropic flexes their schedule to the arrival times of the international flights, so if your US flight is late, you know you will still get to the island. Amigos del Mar has multiple dive boats and excellent dive masters. You can usually run a tab and just pay for the dives at the end. If you are a guest at Caribbean Villas Hotel, you receive a discount on your dives. Other people may have more current facts on the water ferries. Happy trip!

I'd fly at least once. The water taxi is a loooooong ride! They usually run til late in the day,not at nite though. If you take a ruins tour from the island, which i highly recommend, you'll get a good boat ride. The Lamanai trip is probably the longest boat ride and an enjoyable day.

The cab ride from the Intl airport to the water taxi stand is about 20-25 minutes and will set you back roughly $15US. The water taxi ride is roughly 1 1/4 hours long and will set you back $22.50US. Depending on what time of day it is, they REALLY can pack you in on that boat making it an even longer ride. Or you can hop on a plane for a couple bucks more and be here in 15 minutes.

The cab fare to the Marine Terminal from the International airport is US$17.50 (that's for the cab, not per person,no tip necessary) and the one-way fare on the water taxi to San Pedro is US$12.50.

If the weather is calm and sunny, it's a nice boat ride, but if not, not.

If you are traveling with several people, you might also look at flying out of Muncipal, as the fare to San Pedro is about one-half that from International. Taxi fare from International is the same as to the Marine Terminal.

I think what Lan meant was...
If you have several people you can split the fare. If you are alone it's not cost effective.

By the time you get to International and get through customs....I would think you would just be ready to get to Ambergris Caye.
The cost of Flying and being there in 15 mintues makes even thinking about that 2 hour boat ride very un-attractive to me.

Unless you are on a very strict budget....FLY smile

After discussing it with friends, the boat ride is out.

There will four of us going, would that justify chartering a plane from the municipal airport?

What does it cost, and who would I contact for reservations (if they are necessary)?

This BB is awesome! I'm somewhat clued in on Cozumel if I can return the favor to anyone.

The R/T airfair from Belize International to San Pedro is around $93US per person. That is about the best deal you are going to get in any form of travel in terms of cost, time and aggrivation.

Chartering a plane will cost a pretty penny and I'm not sure if 4 of you and all your luggage could fit in the planes I've seen for charter.

Maya Island Air and Tropic Air run from International like a well oiled machine. It's the easiest way to go.

Enjoy! smile
