I was talking to a friend recently that is headed to Ambergris Caye. She said that she had to get a Tet booster plus Hepatitis A shot. She said she was also told that if she were to go into the jungle, she would have to get a malaria shot. Does this sound right???

As far as shots go - nobody "has to" get anything to enter Belize, nor to re-enter the US from Belize.
Tetnus shots protect you against lockjaw, which you get from stepping on rusty nails, etc. Belize probably has fewer rusty nails than the average US backyard - "but" you are more likely to be bare-footed here than at home. It is a good idea to have that shot updated every 7-10 years regardless of where you live or travel. Tetnus shots are also readily available in San Pedro, should you want or need one.
Hep A can be contracted virtually anywhere, and the vacination is given many times in a general program of preventative medicine.
When you go traveling you tend to check up on your vacinations and it's a great time to update the things you need for day-to-day life anywhere.
Travel in Belize has a few of major health risks - sunburn, hangovers and severe heartache when you "have to" leave. Come down, relax and enjoy!!!!!

PS - there is no such thing as a "shot" for Malaria. You take pills each kind specially "designed" for the particular strain of Malaria in an area. These are "passive protection" not an immunization. Check earlier posts discussing this for more information.
If ever a drug company comes up with an immunization against malaria - buy all the stock in that company you can get. Such a breakthrough will change the world.
One of the "pills" that is used against Malaria is "Larium" - for the cerebral hemoragic version found in Equitorial Africa. Side effects are amazing dreams and occasional dimentia that leads to violence. It's a toss-up whether to take that one or run your risks on the disease. The version of Malaria in Belize is quite mild and very treatable.
