I think you can catch the Thunderbolt to Corozal.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Belize City can be a hoot - there is no reason to miss it really. The NEW MUSEUM over by Central Bank is GREAT - it features a fabulous rotating exhibit of Mayan treasures (jade, pottery etc.), and some great photos and other things about the history of Belize City itself. The most arresting exhibit is a Belizean flag that was recovered from the WTC after 9-11. I get goose-bumps just wrting about it. The museum used to be the "prison" - it's been transformed into a small jewel and a stunning architectural statement - really folks - go to Belize City and spend an hour at the museum before you head out elsewhere. If you have time, grab lunch at the Raddison or the new Harbour View and have a cab driver take you on a quick driving tour of the area. There is a certain charm about Belize City that grows on you. Not for a whole vacation mind you, but for a day it's a neat spot.

My experience with Belize city was quite positive too, I went there mainly to get my passport visas to travel to Guatemala and Honduras, but saw some of the sites and had some good food in the process. I had heard rumors that it had become dangerous for tourists due to asaults and thieft..but I had not experienced that problems myself.

Belize City is not to be missed, in my opinion. I wouldn't go out at night there, though. I have a friend who has traveled througout Central America, and she claims Belize City, at night, to be quite dangerous. I have only been there passing through; it's fun. Check out the Chateau Caribbean for meals-nice view, right on the water, very peaceful. There is an art gallery right near the water taxi terminal...contemporary Belizian art, very cool. The little shops, the teeming streets, the vendors...it really gives a flavor to Belize! wink laugh
