First, a big thank you for all the info already provided. I've been reading posts here for quite a while and have decided to go. I'm booked for May 2, 03 and traveling solo (39y.o. male).
I plan on diving the Blue Hole but usually like to start with an easy day to get my feet wet (bad pun, sorry) any recommendations?
I'm staying at the Mayan Princess, I chose there because it is close to town (right?) and I don't need a pool. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
R.S.

No question. Since you are staying at the Mayan, you should probably dive with Amigos del Mar. Not only are they right out front, but you'll be wanting to take their Pro 48 out to the Blue Hole. The Mayan offers a dive package with Amigos or you can just organize something yourself with Melanie once you arrive.
That said, if you prefer to go with a much smaller operation, Reef Adventures is just a dock or two up, a barely noticeable difference in distance. Ched Cabral is a wonderful dive master that will find you all the little stuff.
A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

If you have the time, I'd recommend going out on the Offshore Express. It's an overnight trip with 5 dives total. The Blue Hole dive is the 1st dive you do on your 2nd day, you overnight at a caye that has a booby bird sanctuary and Capt. Clive and crew are helpful, fun and play great music! They are on the Coral Beach dock just south of the Mayan!

Ditto on Offshore Express...I had a blast on that trip..suggest bringing a blanket for the overnight, it rained a bit the night we slept out and due to sunburn I got a little chilled. Absolutly a must do. The dives are worth buying a UW camera.
Life May Be a Beach...I prefer Reefs...

Yeah, the Offshore 2 is bigger (galley is so big Norma got lost in it on the first trip)! Seriously, watching the flying birds and being surrounded by nothing but water on the trip out, good meals, and baby boobies are just part of the experience. "you'll see more boobies than you've ever seen before...big boobies, small boobies..."--I can't wait to go again!

There is only one cure for baldness. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the guillotine.
