I was outside the reef fishing in front of San Pedro when I saw loads of birds a le farther out to sea. These birds were swarming the water and I knew there had to be fish there. I started the motor and headed for the birds location on the sea. When I got there I found maybe tons of bait fish boiling on the waters surface. I had never seen so many fish in schools and their motion and behavior seemed odd. I tried casting right into the huge schools of fish but nothing was biting. After a few minutes I found out why the fish were boiling and why they were not interested in eating either. At the stern of my boat something very large poked its head up out of the water. I could see dark spotted skin and then this large creature opened its mouth and it looked like the entire Caribbean Sea was going to be sucked into this giant mouth. Of course it turned out to be a whale shark about 35' long as best I could guestimate. It let all the sea water flow into its giant sieve of a mouth and it ate the small creatures and filtered out the sea. It was, I believe actually herdint the small fish and was enjoying the snack. This was in May of 2000. I suspect you can find Whale Sharks in many places around Belize in the Spring months. Happy hunting.

Friends of mine saw a whale shark off of San Pedro in September a few years ago (there is video to prove it). And I heard that one was sighted this year around Xmas. I was choked since I hadn't been on that dive.


A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Got this for all of those who wish to go...

We are taking "Changes in Attitude" which is our 54ft live aboard down to Placencia and running 3 day 2 night trips with 8 dives during the full moons. Changes in Attitude is fully self contained with all the amenities including air conditioning. There are accommodations for 8 passengers. The cabins consist of 1 owners suite with shared bath, 1 berth w/2 queen bunks separated with a privacy curtain and a queen sleeper sofa w/private bath. The cabins will be first come first serve.

The trip will include round trip airfare from Belize City to Placencia plus all food, beverages, beer, rum punch, bcd/reg, tanks and weights. We are planning on having the guests arrive the day before departure and spend the night on the boat. We are planning on being back into port so everyone can make the 2:50pm flight back to Belize City. If you wanted to go straight to San Pedro from Placencia we could arrange that. This way we are hoping no one has to pay for any hotel rooms in Placencia. They can be expensive and hard to come by that time of year. This will also enable us to get the best viewing times for the Whale sharks. Dawn and dusk is when the snappers spawn the most and that is not feasible for most boats because of the 1 1/2 hour boat ride from Placencia to Gladden split. In our boat we will be able to drop anchor just inside Gladden Split, Belize's famed Whale shark spotting ground, and dive at those times. Just think, while the excitement for a chance of spotting a Whale shark builds, you will be enjoying the scenery and tranquility of one of the most beautiful places in Belize. The sunsets we saw last year were the most incredible I have ever seen.

The trip is $995.00US Per Person based on double occupancy. We have a 6 passenger minimum and a 8 passenger maximum. Snorkelers will run $972.50US.

We require a 50% deposit with payment in full due 45 days from departure. If payment in full is not received by due date, reservation will be cancelled and deposit will be forfeited. If trip is cancelled within 45 days of trip their will be an 80% penalty. We accept MasterCard and Visa.

Reservation will be confirmed upon receipt of our Credit Card Authorization form.

I don't know if your completely set with your airplane reservations but I do have 3 confirmed for the trip running the first of May and that trip is actually going to be 4 days instead of 3 because the 3 confirmed are longtime divers of ours so I threw in an extra day for them. It will be departing on the 14th instead of the 15th. If not let me know what dates you would like or if there is anything else I can help you with.
