A friend told me that on the beach people can go nude if they wish without being bothered. Is this a true statement?

I have never seen it, I saw very few topless people,I am sure they were not Americans,I am quite sure it was a cultural thing and not in the good ole US of A,where any form of a human body is taboo. Jackie

I'm glad somebody asked this, because I've been curious - but these questions get flaming responses on some chat boards, so was a little chicken!!! Weird, since I'm not chicken about going topless...in the right environment (St Barth and NY beaches yes - Mexico no, except in Playa).

I really don't know the answer to your nude beach question. However, last time I was there, I did not see any topless or nude persons sunbathing by the beaches near town. I guess it depends which beach you're on...the more secluded, less worries. JohnnyK.
I'm returning to San Pedro soon...about 2 weeks away!!! Can't wait!

Well to tell you the truth, the place that would be the best to try it would be the "new" Coconuts, I have a feeling that is going to be an anything goes place for heterosexuals only . In fact I could see it as Belizes first Hedonism. I was the first female skinny dipper in the new pool, right before the new owner Alex. Ask him, he will tell you the story and so will Ada. Alex is a good guy and nudity would be right up his alley.By the way, the bar is now named Lucifers. Jackie

have never seen nude sunbathing. It seems to me that perhaps their is a town ordinance also? marty?? susangg??? bywarren?? remember where you are guys & gals. The culture is, like it or not, somewhat conservative.

Ambergris Caye is changing, some would say too rapidly, in trying to provide many things that tourists want in order to attract the tourist dollar. Having said that, I believe there is still a strong feeling with the local residents and San Pedranos that things like nudity are not acceptable behavior. They still feel, and I believe rightfully so, that this is "their" island and even though there is a strong temptation to provide what the tourist wants, their conservative and mainly Catholic upbringing frowns on things like nudity. When I first started coming to AC, it was unacceptable for a San Pedrano girl to be in a bar. That has obviously changed over time. But, many of the other types of behavior that is accepted in other tourists destinations is still frowned upon here. And, I think that is one of the reasons so many of us like AC. When you come here, you get the feeling that you are being invited into a community as a welcome "guest". This shows in the attitude of the local people here and is what makes vacationing here different from going to a destination that's sole purpose is tourism. Anyway, that is how I see it.
