Is it best to buy a international phone card here in the states or wait till we get to Belize or just use the Internet cafes

I agree with Marty. We plan on making a stop at the Post Office on Front St. and pick up a BTL calling card for our calls.

Not sure of your particular circumstances, but in our family, my mom is the only one with a number to where we can be located. Anyone wanting to contact us on vacation must go through her to get the info...and she's the best about filtering for us.

Also, while we're there, we'll hit the internet cafe & send a mass email to our family/friends to let them know we're doing just fine. If you use Hotmail or Yahoo!Mail this will be easier because you can setup your address book there.

Probably more than you wanted for an answer. Sorry 'bout that.

I've never used a phone card from Belize but I understand it's a tad cheaper than calling from the hotel which at Banana Beach is around $2.00 or $3.00 US a minute which is certainly better than the $30 US a minute I was charged from a hotel in Jamaica. Normally I give my mom the phone number of the hotel in case of an emergency and just use the internet cafes to check in once in awhile if I need to.

You can pick them up all over the caye. They seem to be cheaper than your old MCI card. I get mine at the San Pedrano.
