Hi Everyone!
I'll be out to AC in less than a week. We are staying at Portofino. I'm very very excited. A couple of questions: understanding that the hand ferry closes at 8:00, is there really no way to get north of the island except by boat? We are pretty good swimmers. We were thinking about leaving bikes on that side, and wading over. (He goes first) Ha Ha. Ok, that was an extreme example. But if we want to party in San Pedro past the time the Water Taxis end - how to get back there?
Also, what is your recommendations about going to the mainland for caving, kayaking or Ruins. We are only going to be there for 3 whole days with a good half day on each end. I just don't want to resent that I missed a whole day on the water, but at the same time, if the jungle and the ruins can't be missed, I want to give it a try. I guess my main concern is spending too much time traveling (via bus etc).
Let me know what you think!

In Belize Next Week!

Yes, you could swim the cut. It's probably 100' across. With only 3 days on the island, I'd be hesitant to leave. The ruins and others are pretty much an all-day trip. You can find enough things (snorkelling, sailing, walking, exploring, eating and drinking) to keep you busy right on AC.

Scubatsa has it right. Use your time to enjoy AC & SP. Part of the fun is to slow down to native time and relax.
Have a good visit.

Please stay on the island, with so little time, you will never get the feel of it if you go to the main land. Just save that for another time. When you go to Paradise you don't need to be entertained! Don't know of the place you are staying but there are resorts on the north end with bars and music. Just ask when you get there. I sure would not swim that cut at night. Enjoy!!

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

I agree,,,,do NOT swim across the cut. Very dangerous, even during the day. I have seen boats cruise through there, not very "safey conscious' to put it politely. In one instance, almost plowing into some little kids swimming near the shore. If you want to be where the action is , I recommend staying in the south end. The north end is more isolated and quiet...fine if that's what you want. Of course, you can boat into town; it just takes time. laugh
