Hey all,
My fiancee and I are taking our honeymoon in Belize in late May (can't wait!!! maybe moreso than we are for the wedding itself laugh ). We're spending half the time inland around San Ignacio, and half the time on AC. We've got the inland portion all planned out, but we've kinda been slacking on the Caye portion. smile

How far in advance do we need to reserve space/guides on day trips? Is it something we can do the day before we want to go, or are we waayy too late for anything?
Also, we would like to do a full day fishing/snorkeling combo trip, but we're extreme fishing newbies and don't even own any gear. Would we need to bring our own, or are some guides/companies willing to rent out, and maybe do a bit of teaching?

Thanks in advance,
Mike and Barbi

Snorkeling gear: recommend you bring your own; we think it would be a good investment to buy masks and snorkels that fit well - really strengthens the water experience. Recommend dry snorkels.

Fishing gear: guides have all the gear and they will gladly teach you.

Guide: Geraldo Badillo and his partner Justo are excellent - they could put together your combo trip and maybe get in Caye Caulker as well; one of their boats is a fun catamaran. They can teach you snorkeling and fishing. Phone for Geraldo is 501-226-2264. A Sam's Club AT&T card is approximately 25 cents a minute from the US to Belize.

Day trips: Tanisha and SEAduced are great tour companies. You can book trips after your arrival. Not every trip goes everyday, so recommend you check their schedules as soon as you arrive on-island. Both companies have links above under "Goods & Services" drop down menu. Weather will possibly dictate the days you schedule activites also.

Happy trip and marriage!

Capt and Sandy, thanks for your quick responses!

We already have snorkels and what not, but it's nice to know we won't have to buy and bring our own fishing gear.

It's definately nice to know we can wait until we get to Belize before needing to plan any kind of activities. Gives us one less thing to worry about before the wedding. cool

Again, thanks a bunch.

Mike

Actually, reading this again, I'm not so sure. Are you suggesting I get ahold of Geraldo (or whomever we decide to go with) for fishing/snorkeling trips before we arrive in Belize, or is it okay to wait 'till we get there?

I think it would be worth the phone call from the US before you go to check availability of someone like Geraldo. If the island is busy then, he could be booked many days. The weather is always a wild card when you try to plan a date in advance, but Geraldo or whomever you contact could give you guidance when to finalize your booking. Recommend you try Geraldo about evening meal time - he's frequently out during the day. If he's not there when you call, recommend you call back - messages seem to get lost easily. There are many good guides on the island and some will be available when you are there should you not want to contact anyone now or your plans change. Your hotel would have recommendations also. Happy honeymoon!
