I'm flying in to the Int'l airport and then right out again to placencia, but have about an hour and a half layover. I am told there are no big stores in Placencia, and so would need to stop by a few near the airport. Is there a large grocery store near the airport? what about a drugstore type store? Thanks!!

There is a Brodies not too far from the airport. Not sure if that one has groceries - the one downtown does. Otherwise the Save U is not too far but you'd be cutting it tight, I think.

If you can't find it in Placencia- you don't need it!

May be best that you bring what you need...depending on what it is. There is a very small drugstore outside the airport and there is also a drugstore in Brodies (which is about 8 miles from the airport) but you will have to check out of customs, check luggage back into your connection, catch a cab (17.50), depend on traffic etc, etc, etc. Too much hassle if you ask me, plus what you want may just be available in Placencia unless you are provisioning for a week or something slong those lines.

oh, and the Brodies on the western is just as well stocked as the one downtown. And there are many little stores and fruit stands in Ladyville (where the intl airport is) that you can get most any of the basic necessities that you need.

As Gail notes, Brodies on the Northern Highway is like a small supermarket in the U.S., and it also has a pharmacy. In the Bel-Can shopping center (at the round-about) there's another fairly large grocery, Save-U. But a taxi is probably going to charge you US$20 each way from the international airport. There are three or four little groceries in Placencia, not as big as the ones in Belize City but they have most necessities, and you can also get fruit, vegetables etc. from Dangriga. If you really wanted to hit a supermarket in Belize City, you might think about flying out of the Municipal airport. You could take a taxi to Brodies', say, and then go on from there (less than 10 minutes) to Municipal. You save a little by flying from Municipal, though less than on trips to San Pedro.
