I have seen some pics and read some messages about pretty secluded beaches (on the western part of island?) Wondering what the western part is like, and can you drive a golf cart to that area (say from Banana Beach?
Thanks guys!.....Sherry from NC

I'm very interested to know too, since we're going to AC on 8/18. Does anyone know ?
I'll write up my experience when I get back.

Ahhhhhh, west side?????? The developed side of AC is the east side. The west side is mostly mangrove and lagoon (and I wouldn't swim in it--I've been told there are 'itchy things' in that water by locals). And as far as taking a golf cart, well you can walk EASILY from the east side to the west side--it's not very wide, and in some places south and up north, you can see from 1 side to the other.

I think the poster meant north side of the island and yes, lots less development and many more quieter beaches with less human traffic. Some golf cart rental agencies will allow you to cross the cut and some won't. You just need to make sure you can get there and back before the cart requires a recharge.

The west side of the island is accessible only by boat and there are secluded beaches there with beautiful sunsets. You could hire a guide or watertaxi to drop you off and pick you up later. There is one resort (Cayo Espanto) on that side on its own little island and a couple of houses; otherwise it is very natural. Some people confuse the west side of town and the associated lagoon with the true west side of the island - they are quite different places. You cannot walk to the west side of the island, you can walk to the lagoon at the back of town.
