I am in the process of planning a wedding in Belize for early April 2004. I'm looking for a resort that will be fun for all of my guests (there are only about 10) and with easy access to the different things to do on AC. We have tentatively decided on Ramon's, however, when I read the board I begin to worry that it is too noisy since it is in town. The noise won't be a problem for me...but I do want my parents and other guests to be comfortable.

We have started looking at Xanadu resort. Which would you all recommend? I know that Xanadu is experiencing some construction right now but that should definitely be over by then.

Also, is it worth it to stay in a cabana? I know it's got to be fairly difficult to cool but in the grand scheme of things will I regret not spending the week in a cabana?

I'm sure that I will have many more questions as I figure out what we're doing. ANY suggestions re:ceremony or anything else is welcome. It's a little scary to plan a wedding site unseen.

Thanks,
rcw

Yes, Xanadu is a great place and a recent posting said their construction will be finished this summer. Another wonderful place just north of Xanadu is Caribbean Villas Hotel - only 10 rooms and suites on 3 acres of land. You could possibly rent all the suites and rooms in one villa for your party. They host many weddings and honeymoons on their great beach and in their gardens, for both ceremonies and photos. The CV owners and staff have planned and managed many, many weddings - they will arrange everything for you at reasonable prices; ask for references of other wedding couples from there. Recommend you visit CV's website via "Lodging" above and E-mail Susan or Lily to discuss your wedding thoughts and needs. Both CV and Xanadu are small and south of town, away from noise, yet just a 15-ish minute beachwalk to town. Happy trip wherever you stay!

look at caribe island (my favorite) or victoria house for a wedding. i personally do not like the cabanas (tried twice), then opted for caribe's suites. cleaner, cooler (temp), larger, kitchens, nicer views, NO noise. really serene. here is a pic of the beach at CI i took just this week:

RCW you might want to give some thought to Portofino. It's a nice, quiet resort owned by a Dutch gentleman and a Belgian lady. It's a few miles north of town and you can only get there by boat so it's quiet, yet only fifteen minutes away from town if you want to go dancing (or whatever). They have their own boat that makes regular runs to town and back or you can take the Island Ferry for $10 BZ.

The food is great and you get all the other things you normally get at a resort here, like massage, diving, etc.

No, I'm not a sales person for Portofino, but had a great time there myself, and they DO do weddings.
