As you can see, each of us have our favorites; from places to stay to tour operators. If you can sort through the unnecessary stuff there is a lot of information here. There are pros and cons to everything, just like in your hometown. It might be helpful if there were a questionnaire to fill out asking questions such as, do you want to be in the middle of the activity, on the edge or secluded? Are you looking to party of sack out in a hammock? Things like that.
My apartment is smack dab in the middle of town. I can live on one square block. I like that. However, the Lions Club is across the street and every Saturday night they play (I'll leave out my opinion of the quality) music until well after midnight. Fido's is in the next block and several nights a week their music drifts up to my verandah. For people who like to party it is easy to stagger home if you are close by the party place. The other thing to know is that the party is at different places different nights. So, while Paradise Villas and Blue Tang (I love them both) are considered on the edge of town and relatively quiet, Wet Willy's has ladies night on Wednesday's and I've heard they go until the wee hours of the morning and can be very loud. I also heard the Jerry Jeff Walker plays there occasionally. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
By the same token, since this board protects identity, some folks are tooting their own horn. I see no problem with that, if they identify themselves as such. I promote Lily's Restaurant because I love the setting, the people who run it and those who work there. Besides, they let me hang out there. I dive with Hustler's because they have a great safety record and take good care of my stuff.
I am half moved to San Pedro and when people ask me “Why Belize?” I always say, “The people.”
By that I mean the mix of people who live and work there and the kinds of tourists that are attracted to the place and come back time after time – or just never leave!
I wish I were there now, but I am in northern California, selling my house so I can pack up and move to San Pedro full time.
BTW –when I am in San Pedro I do not have the time or the money to be reading and posting here. I enjoy and use this board when I am away as a way to stay connected.
I hope you will love your stay as much as I have loved all 8 of mine.
