This may be a dumb question but I will ask it anyway. I am planning my next trip to AC for next June. On my recent trip I rented a golf cart on 3 different days. At the end of each day I noticed the battery was running down. If you rent a week at the time, as I plan to do next June, what about the battery? Do you trade it in daily or is there a way to charge it from where you are staying?

From what I have expreienced, whenever the battery gets low I would just take it back to the rental place and trade in a new one. Sometimes we would have to go twice in one day. I guess it depends what kind of place you're staying at. If it's more of a guesthouse/home they may have a charger. Its much easier to just trade in daily I think.

There is significant ecological debate within this forum for gas-powered golf carts, however, during my visit I used the gas powered version and believe this would be the best option for long term usage.

If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.

Thanks Doggie and Gaz! I e-mailed them and am waiting for a reponse. Battery-powered carts were sometimes a problem. Several of our group rented on several different days and experienced premature expiration. Had read several posts claiming that they were too noisy but apparently that is not true. Thanks for your input.

I was up on North Ambergris a few days ago in a Moncho's cart. Battery ran down before I got back to town. I was near Journey's End then. I called on my cell phone, and they told me to go to the Caye Mart at Essene Way (an agent for Moncho's) and trade the got there. I did make it to the driveway to Esssene Way before the cart completely died. It took just a couple of minutes to switch carts, and I was on my way again.

But the lesson is: To go as far as you can north (these days, you can easily get past Portofino), you'll need a full charge.

I would recommend the gas powered carts. We stayed at Captain Morgan's a few weeks ago and we rented electric golf carts at the Caye Mart next door. The days we rented the electric carts they barely made it to San Pedro where we were able to trade them in at Moncho's at the airport. We would have rented gas carts if they had been available where we were renting. Have a good time.

Thanks, Scubadoo! How much is the daily rental and how expensive is gas? How often do you have to fill up?
