Well, I think the answer is both "yes and no" If I am going to a remote and strange place I always ask where are the local hangouts, restaurants, etc. Why should I go through the disappointment and money on finding a place to eat and it sucks... that can get costly. I'd rather rely on other people's experiences and then use my own judgement.

By the way, I think I saw Elvis this morning at the gas station near my house. eek

Agrre w/ Denny... I have pages of stuff cut / pasted ito a Word doc, I'm gonna read it on the plane, then when I'm wandering about town, an establishment's name will remind me & I'll try it. It just gives one a basis of options. It's not like I plan "Mon - Caliente, Tue, Cafe Picasso" before I get there (well except for BC's BBQ on Sunday). OTOH I'm passing on Elvi's this trip, based on the collective comments here about it; good place, poor value. It's the same reason regular travelers to New Orleans don't go to Brennan's...

Also, it's probably something to do w/ being raised w/ the philosophy of ~

Always know where your next meal is coming from :p

Good point, Toad. I'm one of those cross-referenced out the wazoo guys. At least I was until I realized I was getting too well informed. For me there is a balance point--I need some info but not too much smile

Beachbob,
Are you staying in town, or north, south? I ask because tho all who wander are not lost, you'd have to be lost to wander past us here at Casa Picasso, trust me, I know I'm hard to find. So, I invite you to hitch a cab (I'll take care of the fare)if you can't seem to come across us in your ramblings. Have a good time!!

Beachy,

Just got home last night; we were already in de plane when your post was posted. We stayed in town, and indeed Cafe Picasso was on 'the list', but the dang list was L O N G and we just flatout ran out of days to try everything! Circumstances being what they were, w/ child in tow, in town places were at an advantage. Such is life... Soooo we'll swing by next time. & there will indeed be a next time laugh

My father used to say to eat where all the truck drivers eat. Later, when I became a truck driver... I found out that Dad was wrong. Truckers are drawn to Mini-skirted flirts.
