Hi people. Im in the process of researching places to live in central america. Obviously, Belize (AC specifically) is one of my choices of destination (or i wouldn't be here asking you guys questions). I have a long list of questions in fact, and I am trying to answer them on my own using the various utilities the wonderful people of Belize have made available to the public (especially the resources and information from the expat population, kudos to you).

However, the official AC website is insane.. there are so many links, and so many overlapping catagories, I get lost after just a few minutes. This is less of a criticism and more of a plea for help!! So if there is anything I can't find out on my own, this will be the next place I'll be looking.

With that said, I would like to know if there are any marinas located in AC? I am fairly new to sail boating, and plan on bringing a boat to where ever it is I end up moving to. What facilities exist, if any, for renting/purchasing slips (with power, water, etc)? Does anyone have any suggestions? Keep in mind, i am looking for reasonable accomidations.. The Yacht Club seemed expensive.

Im looking forward to hearing from you guys..

I know of sailboats staying off shore from San Pedro. They dingy in for meals and bring out water and necessities. There are no reasonable yacht clubs in San Pedro. I do know of some private piers that seem to allow sailboats to dock for periods of time. I am sure they pay for that accomodation. The coral reef running along Ambergris Caye and the length of Belize is a consideration. Many sailboats have crashed upon it, and having local knowledge of the "cuts" is necessary. Some of the cuts are not straight in, but bent. Again, local knowlegde is adviseable until you get the lay of the land/coral.

Gone fishing!!

As you can see from an airplane or a watertaxi, everything's pretty shallow. I would imagine that's why you see so many catamarans. I would think a water-ballast boat like a Macgregor 26X would be a good choice if you want a mono-hull.
How about buying 2 old BZ fishing boats, tie them together with bamboo and rope, instant catamaran and no import duty! You could even pitch a tent between them !
