Hi,

We're going to AC in 10 days. I've read a lot from this message board, and plan to do more research this weekend. However, any personal experience is greatly appreciated !

(1)We're staying at Belizean Shores. Has anyone been there ? How is the beach there ? Any other nice beaches in the area ?

(2)Any good restaurants and bars you recommend ?

Thanks a lot.

I think you summed up with a perfect thought, "explore things that you likely don't get to see regularly, and you'll be delighted."

I'm not familiar with Belizean Shores, but there are a number of nice streches of beach on the northern part of AC where you're staying. Captain Morgans had a nice beach south of BS and also Mata Chica a ways north of you. There are tons of good places to eat in town. On north AC there is Sweet Basil Restaurant, Capricorn always gets raves (I'll find out when I go to AC in 11 days)and Mambo at Mata Chica. And don't forget to go to the Palapa bar which should be pretty close to where you are staying.

Chi,
We just spent the day there a couple of weeks ago. I think you'll be very happy with the resort. Excellent accomodations and probably the best pool on the island. Haven't ever swam off the beach but they do have a nice pier to swim off. The new restaurant there is excellent. Had dinner with the owners and I must say it may have been the best meal we've ever had on AC (18 trips). I think you'll be pleased with your choice. The worst thing about staying up north away from town is the isolation. The best part about staying north is also the isolation. The other restaurants in the area are also very good so I don't think you'll have any trouble finding excellent food. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone!

AC sounds like my kind of place. Delightful and down to earth.

Now I just hope it's great weather during my stay. 10 days to go ! We have two families, each has two adults and two children, ages 8 - 10.

By the way, has anyone charted a boat to visit some "castaway" islands ? Is it a good experience and how much normally does it cost ?

Thanks again.

I recommend an all day snorkel, boat ride, beach bbq with one of the local guides (hillyboo is good, also check with seaduced in town). The cost for the family should be around $100 or $150 depending on the guide, length of time out, etc.
