a nice custom with some tourists to negril was to bring gifts for the housekeepers and other things for local schools or kids.

clothing, books, toiletries, shoes, anything that is hard to get or expensive was appreciated...we packed a small suitcase with just such things to give away in negril and others do likewise...several local business owners even acted as distribution points for such gifts...

i realize AC is smaller and more self-contained than negril, but wondering if there is a similar custom or if there are things that might be appreciated here?

Yes, extra supplies are always welcomed.

I would seriously appreciate smoked salmon and caviar(the caviar that Denverdan and his wife Hope brought down lasted milliseconds,but boy did it taste good-thanks guys it was really appreciated)

School supplies are ALWAYS needed. The school will make sure they get to those that need them. I brought a bag of small toys and things for children as well. The children's clinic was delighted to get them and give them out to the needy sick kids. It would be wonderful if you could do the same for San Pedro. The Lions club will help distribute as well. Just ask around. It's amazing the beautiful smiles you'll receive for a simple box of crayons.....

i thought it was such a nice gesture for tourists to leave such things behind if there is a need where you travel.

i will look for other suggestions about things to bring and where donations can be made. thanks for your info...

When I have gone to AC in the past, I usually hit the dollar store and get coloring books, crayons, markers, stickers, play doh, candy and some hair trinkets for the little girls. I just give them out randomly - a good time is when the school gets out and all the kids are walking down the streets to their homes.

We have a United Women's Group in San Pedro. WE would like to thank Mike Wheeler, Tina Moore and Fam and Dianne and Ben. They brought us a lot of school supplies. We will be giving it out to needy children. For more info. contact [email protected]

Geeze... I wish you had told me dude, smoked salmon is a heck of a lot easier to pack! Go see Vicki, maybe she has some left from our last trip and will share with you.
