We'll be leaving the island (AC) on September 14 after 12 days and are looking to go to Honduras or Guatemala for six days. We've done Tikal.
any suggestions? I hear there is a nice river that opens up into a lake in Guatemala near the Honduras border. Soon... I'll be back....

I love San Pedro/ San Pablo, Ambergris, Punta Gorda,Maya mountains,Corazal, Progresso...

Livingston was a really interesting experience for me. It's a Garifuna town, and oh boy!! is that ever a language I don't understand!! Thank goodness we had a friend along who spoke a little. It's a funky town totally on a big hill, river to one side, ocean to the other. Back then you could only get there by water and it was quite the adventure. Check it out!

I am glad you enjoyed Livingston, we always loved it too. There is a series of cataracs out in the bush just 2 miles or so out of the town. I believe it is called the Siete Altares, or the seven altars as it has seven small waterfalls. The bay of the loved ones, la bahia de los amantes, is very shallow and is nice for swimming and fishing. The ruins of Quirigua and Esquipulas are the interesting parts of eastern Guatemala. We used to work in Chiquimula, Guatemala near the Honduran border. Chiquimula is kind of exciting too in it's own Guatemalan-Ranchero way. best-wishes, mel s.
