It is our first time in Belize and we will be staying in san Pedro for New Years Eve. We have spent the past 4 New Years Eve in the BVI's (Foxys), however, it was time for a change. Heard wonderful things about Belize! Is there any special place to spend New Years Eve this year? Any "must do" places we should go? There will be just 4 of us girls vacationing, trying to relax from the busy rat race!

Also, any suggestions on boat charters? We have chartered boats in the BVI's but don't have any idea about Belize boating. Are there places to go at night for some local nightlife, meaning a beach bar, cold beer, and sand between our toes? Around Tortla there are lots of little beach bars only accessible by boat and we were wondering if that is the case in Belize? It seems like the best way to see the cayes, dive, and snorkel is by having your boat.

Thanks for your thoughts.....wish we were there now!

Love Foxy's and Quito Rhymers and how about the Soggy Dollar. IMAHO Belize is different as Ambergris is about a 5-6 mile stretch of more or less one beach. There is not as much sailing as the reef limits that due to depth. We had the most fun at the Lions Club party on New years eve. Low key locals event. everything stops at about 11:30 in respect to the Mass at the church. Quarters are close and the raucous sounds would overwhelm the church choir and service. Then at about 12:15 they crank it up again. Ramons has a big blowout[something new & different] and Fido's[Fee-dough's] also, of course. Certainly not stem to stern yachts--were you at foxy's for Millenium? Must have been epic. Lions club was about $10 US per and Fido's has a cover also.

I think The Moorings has an office in ...Placencia. Plus you can hire a panga/bayrunner kind of as a watertaxi.

If you can fall off a log, you will have an awesome time.

Peace, out.

"In our travels we have found no region that can match the attractions of the 500-mile crescent of land and sea between the Yucatan Strait and the Gulf of Honduras" - The Cruising Guide to The Northwest Caribbean, Nigel Calder

Belize offers some of the best sailing in the world all along the reef with numerous anchorages along the cayes and yes there are small bars and restaurant dotted along the reef. The run from San Pedro to Placencia is approximately 110 miles so there is plenty to see.

Your best bet of reference is either the guide noted above or The Cruising Guide to Belize and Mexico's Caribbean Coast, Freya Rauscher.

You can find TMM Bareboat Vacations at www.sailtmm.com , they have cats ranging from 35' to 46' (Fountaine Pajot and Lagoon's) and they will have a 32' Jeanneau shortly. They have 2 bases in Belize, one in San Pedro and one in Placencia.

Cheers,

Simon...

Thanks Big Frank! And yes, we were at Foxy's for the millineum. It was so much fun, so many people and boats! Partying till 6 am. Lots of fun. Last year was a lot tamer, and a lot less people. Ramon's seems like the place for New Years in Belize.
