Hi everyone! I've been scouring this board for about 2 months now and finally registered yesterday.

My mother and I are traveling to Ambergris Caye February 18 - 23, 2004. Anyone else going to be there at this time? We're staying at Mata Rocks.

I'm so excited!!! I've been to Cancun a couple of times and knew that wasn't quite the experience for us. I searched and searched for a less touristy spot that was a quick flight (from Houston) and where they speak English. I finally came across Ambergris. If it's half as wonderful as everyone on this board says, then I'm sure we'll love it!

I know it's 5 months away, but I plan to post one helluva trip report with tons of photos! Stay tuned... wink

We will be next door at Royal Palm, look forward to meeting you and your Mom. If you don't care for Cancun you'll love AC - you'll see. Come on over for a Coke Cola. Pam Morrill

We too hope that you enjoy AC. We will be staying most of February at the Royal Palms. If you don't run into us at the Squirrel's Nest(Mata Rocks beach bar) just ask for Bill & Colleen at the bar at Coconuts. We usually check in there once a day.

indygal & crockhunter: that's so cool. I hope to meet you all.

indygal, I don't drink Coke but I'll have a Belikin with ya. smile

By the way, how long of a walk is it from Mata Rocks to town? And, is Belikin any good?

I would guess that it's about 11/2 miles to town. You are not out in the country at Mata Rocks though, there are restaurants and a few groceries scattered out in between there and town.
We usually rent a golf cart for our entire stay just for the convience. We both like to walk and do so every morning but still enjoy the cart.

At the risk of being chastised by the rest of the board, I'll have to say that, in my opinion, Belikin is just an average beer. I think that the warmer the air temperature is, the better any beer tastes.
