We're coming down next month.....should I bring bug spray? I was reading another post (about Belize) and they suggested it. Does the island have no seeums this time of year?
Thanks for the help!

Bring the bug spray. It's a lot cheaper at home than on the island. I was there in August and we weren't bothered by bugs during the day, but I noticed after the first night there that I was getting bites on my legs while we were eating dinner. Many restaurants have sand floors.

One night, we ate at a restaurant a few blocks inland from the water. I had forgotten to spray myself and I got eaten alive in the first 5 minutes at this place. Obviously, this must happen often there, because the staff was able to offer me a large can of bug spray. The problem got better after I doused myself with the spray.

Deep Woods Off in the small pump spray bottle. 95% Deet. Use it liberally on feet, ankles and calves. Use it sparingly on arms, neck etc. Make sure you wash your hands after applying.

I'll verify that the "Off Skintastic" is good, used it in the jungle at Lamanai last year and it did a good job! :p

Did anyone verify that the bugs would be bad during the Nov/Dec timeframe?

I would still like to know the bug stituation for Nov/Dec. I'll use the more milder sprays if the bugs aren't too bad but if it's a bad time of year for the critters then I'll bring down the industrial strength stuff.

Alaskans swear by Avon Skin-So-Soft to keep no-seeums away. You can now get it on the island.

my repellant of choice is OFF Botanicals...a lotion - plant based repellant...

this works great for me in the evenings on the beach/sand...especially for the feet/ankles...and smells good...never get bitten when i put this on.

are the bugs about the same year-round? how 'bout in february?
