Boat Girl,
If you want to pronounce it the way a native Belizean says it, then it is "key" We have never said "kay" and you can 'take that to the bank'

I thought those who were saying "kay" were just pulling people's legs. But maybe folks who say "kay" are also the ones who think it's AM-ber-gree.

Listen to Gail. As she says, it's key, always has been, and you can take it to the "bonk"!

Don't care how the gringo's pronounce it, the San Pedrano pronounce "Kay", when we talk plural, we do pronounce it as "Keys". Same as Fido's; gringo's seem to like to pronounce that as "Fydo's"....

For 1, San Pedrano are no "(native) Belizeans", but San Pedrano - they are the most recent native inhabitants of Ambergris Caye, and we don't feel so much related to the rest of Belize.

For 2, Because of the Spanish background, we do not pronounce words in a gringo way (nor English), thus "Caye" (Cayo) becomes "Kay", and not Key - although a Belizean (from the city) might say "Key".

Fee do would have said "Kay" ;^)

Mark Twain once said that he had no respect for a man that could not spell a word at least three different ways. I guess the same can be said of pronoouncing "am BUR giss key".

See you Jan 3rd.
