Spent last winters vacation in Belize (Mayan Princess) with family of 5. Want to go to new places and am thinking of Roatan. Any comments or ideas? We loved Belize - people are great and friendly. Still miss the Jerk Pit.

Can you suggest any places to stay in Roatan ?

Thanks in advance.

Roatan is a famous dive destintion. Lots of folks got to Anthony's Key Resort (something like that)where they give dive packages...you know room, so may dives per day, etc etc for "x" amount. The undersea life is incredible and quite close to shore. The beach at "West End" is just gorgeous, white, sandy...but BUGGY! Nasty sand flies. I didnt' find the locals quite as friendly as Belizians, but the econommy and political scene there has historically been a lot dicier than Belize. Go there if you just want to dive, dive, dive. laugh

I found AK to be isolated, and BORING! You are basically limited to that tourist compound, not alot of interaction with the locals. There will be a group staying at Luna Beach(?), currently of Temptation Island fame, next spring. I will be waiting to hear how they found that place. If you want to dive, dive, dive -- think about Utila.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roatan/messages is the Roatan message board.

Its no where near as good a message board as this AC one is for Belize info but its the only Roatan one I have found. So for hotel recommendations you may want to go and ask on there. Also www.roatanet.com for Roatan hotel and other info.

I am going with about 10 others to Roatan in early May (1st - 12th)this year. We did Belize the last two years and loved it, but decided to try somewhere new this year. I still plan on getting back to Belize whenever my budget and vacation time will allow though!

I just returned from a week in Roatan, west end and my second trip to Belize for two weeks. I left roatan 2 days early just to go to Belize again, diving is better, CULTURE AND PEOPLE are amazing and better, more beauty in AC, things to do. Roatan was fun, but it's basically just to dive and everyone says it's cheaper but its not! Food was more and the only thing cheaper was diving by $10 per dive, Belize is worth each dollar more and some! I miss Belize...
