The pictures of the flooding and the news stories about the delayed rainy season have me very concerned that my trip to Ambergris Caye (November 21 - 28) is going to (literally) be a washout.

We're coming to AC to snorkel (needs nice weather), kayak (needs nice weather), walk on the beach (needs nice weather)... There's a pattern here.

How are things looking for November 21 - 28 with the weather lately? I'm really quite worried that this will turn out to be an expensive and frustrating waste of a vacation.

Yes, I know, you can't predict the weather, or at least the weather people here at home certainly can't! .. but I figure long time residents will know the patterns and have a "feel" for it.

Thanks
-Jay

Dear Jay,

I know the Island didn't had good weather the last few weeks, only most of the rains where at night (around 4:00AM) and not in the daytime.
Normally the rainy season starts in August, and November is known for some breezes, and sometimes we get cold fronts but otherwise the weather is very nice and beautiful, and are you able to go kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, etc.
Please keep also in mind that most of the rain showers are local and take about maximum 10 minutes. It happens many times that when you would have some rain (for example) in San Pedro Town, it is nice and sunny a few miles further.

I was there in March, the same time as a norther blew in, and stayed my entire vacation. No sunshine, big waves, and you know what? I really didn't notice it, because I was so busy.
Snokeling spots are mostly inside the reef, so that and kayaking will be doable. I hope you get the perfect weather you desire, but if not, it won't ruin your vacation. NYGal in here gave me good advice prior to my first trip, stay fexible.
I heeded that advice, and had a great time.

After reading your post, I would have thought that I wrote it!! We will be in San Pedro Nov 20 - 28 and I, also, have been concerned about, and watching the weather. (see one of my previous posts) We also have planned this vacation around being able to snorkel and seeing the amount of rain that San Pedro has received recently I was somewhat disheartened and agnst over a possible ruined vacation but you know what--- there's nothing that I can do to change it and I'm just going to go with the flo and it's certainly warmer there than here in Vermont. (but I do understand your concern) My friends are teasing me saying I should take the product Rain-X along instead of sunscreen!! Hope we both have great vacations -

Hey Putney, maybe we all should get together since we have similar goals! Yoshiko and I will be staying at Xanadu. Please drop me an email note at [email protected] and we'll chat!

And thanks to everyone else for the encouragement, particularly Lan (I bought you book!) and Capt Jeff. Hopefully we'll have nothing worse than sand on the streets to deal with from the rains.

-Jay

JUST BACK FROM SAN PEDRO,
Yes it rained but mostly in the early A.M. before sunrise with lightning display. Most of the days rain was gone in the middle of the day with stray thunderstorm about 4-5 P.M. appeared to be moving out of the rainy season by the first of the week. Locals said more rain than they have seen in many seasons but they seem to think it is time for it to be over. Whatever, go soon and enjoy. wink wink wink
