Well we fell in love with Ambergris Caye last week...stayed at Banana Beach...great rooms, we had a second floor balcony room, very clean, with a great view! The food at Banana Beach was very good, you can use the credit for the buffet breakfast to order from the regular menu...the huevos rancheros were very good...and banana pancakes were wonderful! We did walk up to Estels for breakfast our last morning....good food and wonderful service...We rented bikes for the week from Joe's bike rentals...very reasonable and nicer bikes than alot of the rentals we saw...and he just received a shipment of brand new bikes right before we left...We figured we could eat more if we rode bikes vs. renting a golf cart...although balancing a case of Belikin on the handlebars/basket was a bit time I will definately call ahead and have a case of Belikin and a case of water delivered so it is there when we arrive! Everyone we met had a smile on their face...very nice people here...Food: we loved Blue Water Grill, they cooked our snapper we caught..the food was fabulous here, even had a pizza on thanksgiving night there....(because we ate soooo much conch, lobster and snapper for thanksgiving dinner....)...The bbq at BC's was excellent! We ate at Capricorn for lunch one day, met the owner and one of the cooks, very nice people...Had drinks several times at Fido's, great bar, lots of nice people there..met Capt Jeff and Peter finally....they are both wonderful people!...Ate at Stained Glass Pub...great food...Ambergris Delight had very good food and was recommended by a long-time visitor...Wanted to go to all the great places that everyone suggested here, but ran out of days! (I guess we will have to go back!) We sailed on the catamaran El Gato with Captain Gerardo and his brother Fido (or is it Vito??) to Caye Caulker where we had a wonderful lobster lunch - and snorkeled Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley...danced on the boat to reggae music after a few great rum punches....what a wonderful day that was! We saw sooo many different fish, lobsters, conch, snails, sharks - including a very very large didn't really look like a nurse shark shark at Mexico Rocks, rays....The snorkeling at Mexico Rocks and Tres Cocos is not to be much beautiful coral and so many different kinds of fish! Fishing: Fished with Capt Bicho and Junior, caught so many fish I had a blister - trigger, jacks, baracuda, snapper. Bicho made sure we were busy reeling fish in, if the catching was slow, he moved the boat. Wonderful beach bbq again! Snorkeling...enjoyed a great day with Tulu and Susie (govikes) people! we snorkeled and fished all day, enjoyed a wonderful beach bbq at the beautiful costa maya restort where I ate the largest lobster tail I have ever seen...couldn't even finish it all! Also had conch, snapper, potatoes....MMMMM! We enjoyed riding our bikes to the north and south ends of the island to explore...beware of the mosquitoes! If you go down to the lagoon south of the water tower around 4:30, you might be lucky enough to see crocodiles. We saw three very large ones! We felt very safe and had a wonderful time on this beautiful island!

Having also just returned from AC, I wanted to add a few comments. (Kim, we met you on the shuttle bus to the Houston Holiday Inn) We also had a great time. We stayed at Banana Bch, too. Beautiful place. Staff is great!! I would like to add a few suggestion where to eat. Besides the Banana Bch, try the Jam Bel Jerk Pit, the local food at the food stalls across the alley from the Jerk Pit, Los Cocos, Papi's Diner, Elvi's. The Stainglass Pub was good, too. Fido's etc... just to mention a few that we tried. We didn't rent bikes but rented a golf cart right from Banana Bch. There are places cheaper to rent from (Cars R US) but very convenient to do it right from BB. Having a golf cart gave us the opportunity to really check out San Pedro. To find out of the way shops and talk with many local people. We did all of our day trips(snorkeling, etc..) from BB - Money Business. Be sure to ask for Alfonso as your guide. I could go on and on about AC but I won't. A great place to visit!!!!

Mikell - We did do quite a bit of swimming. The beach front next door (to the north of BB) is fine for swimming. A little sea grass but not bad. BB has a sea-wall in front. If you use the first pier north of BB, you will find a shallow sandbar about 100' from the end of the pier. Very nice for just hanging out. Water in some spots just up to your knees and the boat traffic usually avoids this shallow area. Other wise if you swim too far out from any piers WATCH FOR BOATS!!! We also tried snorkeling in front of BB but not much out there. Saw a couple rays and small schools of fish. ALSO, beware of boat traffic.
