so i can see it now. me and my buddy will be down to ac in late feb and we'll take a day trip to caulker. some snorkling, some lunch, some barring. and oops we missed the last boat back to ac. will we have a problem getting a room for the night? worse ( or best) case , can we sleep on the beach? and since we're there anyway, where's a great place to eat dinner and then bar some more? by the way, this is one of the best boards i've been to in all my traveling.you guys (and gals) are the best. hope to run into some of you while we're down.

I went to Caulker on the Winnie Estelle, a converted fishing boat; they took out the equipment and installed industrial sized RUM PUNCH COOLERS. Snorkled twice and pet the sharks, we only spent about 2 hours on the island, but I would wager if you needed to stay you could do that for pretty cheap. Caulker is maybe a 15 minute stroll long so...I doubt you'd really need to stay overnight. I loved the place, if Ambergris is mellow, Caulker is comatose--in a good way :-]. Can you tell I'm at work on a Saturday and prosrastinating?

Peace, out

My recommendation would be to make it a planned excursion. There's nothing wrong with planning to drink too much, you'll probably do it anyhow. Why not get a room before you go, that way the place and price are ensured and you're not bothering the nice hotel owners at midnight. CC is way cool. The next day you can rent kayaks and paddle all around for 5 bucks an hour waiting for happy hour to begin at the sandbox ($1 local rum drinks)then go back to SP with a very good attitude that everything worked as planned. It didn't seem like the kind of place that liked beach sleepers. Besides there are places for $12.50 per night - I don't remember the name, but someone will know the name of the purple painted boxes on stilts.
