Although you ask the question of Capt Jeff, I will be so presumptuous as to answer. Belize is not known for bill fishing. There are bill fish caught year around, sails primarily in winter months and marlin all year. To give you an example, I fished the Belize Bill Fish Annual Tournament last year; it will occur again this Feb. There were probably about 30 boats fishing for two and a half days and two marlin, no sails were caught. One blue 147lbs. and one white 49lbs. The other annual tournament is held in Oct. There were no bill fish caught this year. I have fished for bill fish a lot in Belize over my 35 years of fishing here. At one time we fished solely for bill fish. I would estimate that we caught one for every 7 days of fishing. Now, that is not to say that you won’t go out tomorrow and catch one, it is just that the odds are against it. I was talking to Pete Graniel, local fishing guide who I would recommend for bill fishing, and he told me of having one over 500lbs. follow the bait day before yesterday but it would not take the bait. Pete does really good on Wahoo and will raise bill fish while fishing for the Wahoo. If you wanted a chance for bill fish, I would suggest your best bet would be to consider chartering Pete for Wahoo and keep your fingers crossed, pray to the fishing Gods, wish for your luckiest day fishing and maybe you will be rewarded.

janet,dr like my brother byron ,said this is not a sailfish,or top water fishing spot ...however if you want action that will keep you going all day ,this is the place ,,cuda ,reef fish ,go to fishingsanpedro.com my capt bicho is the man ,I think he is the best, capt and guide there, and there some good ones ..but if your looking for a 500 lb fish it is not in the cards ..but a great day on the water you will have ..live the dream and enjoy ,tight lines to you ..

Thanks!!! regarding bill fishing.... i will be going to ambergris caye for my eigth time next week,(feb.1 to feb.9) to do a little fishing. while i would agree with bywarren that this not prime bill fishing terrirory, we have seen sailfish jumping beside and behind our boat on several occasions.we even had one of our group land a sail on my first trip.(as i recall around 70# or so)i would also agree wahoo fishing can be good as our group really got into them oneyear.we caugt several nice ones and one woman staying at our hotel(not with my group)had one that was weighed at 75#, and part of it was still resting on the dock. all that said, i have spent a fair amount of time on the water near A/C, and have never had a bad day fishing there. heres hoping you have agreat trip. good luck!
