Do I need a fishing lisence on Ambergris Caye. If so, any details as to where to buy one, how much, etc...???

I'd rather get it right than be sending messages asking about Belize prisons!!!

Good question...I'd like to know the answer to that one too!! My husband is the fisherman and it's our first time...he's done all the research and reading about Belize and so far hasn't seen any need for a fishing permit...boarders correct me if I'm wrong

You do not need a fishing license. And you certainly would not want to experience any part of the Hattieville facility. Consistently among the nastiest on the globe. Fishing there is VERY bad.

although "trolling" can be very good ( I hear)

The closest things to a fishing license in Belize are fees non-Belizeans have to pay to fish in certain marine reserves. For exampke, in southern Belize there are zoned conservation areas such as that at Glovers Reef. There non-Belizeans must purchase a license for BZ$50 (payable at Middle Caye). Also visitors to Glovers Reef, whether fishing or not, pay a BZ$5 a day or BZ$20 a week user's fee, similar to users fees paid at Hol Chan.
