Hi all...will be arriving Friday, March 5th. Can't wait. Have been reading the board for quite some time, but I am still unclear about the easiest/least expensive way to call to the USA. Only need to make two or three calls (hopefully). A while ago someone mentioned a BLT or BTL card?? Can you purchase them there? Any information would be helpful.

You can buy a prepaid phone card nearly anywhere. I buy a $50.BZE (thats equal to $25USD) and I call home twice on that. Theynow also have great pay phones that will allow you to call collect and they are at the streets/hotels, easy access.

BTL (Belize Telecommunications Ltd) also has phone booths that you can call home from.

I agree with Toad, OR arrange a time for your folks back home to call you in your room.

I remember when I called home this last visit in January, I used the phone service at Island Internet, from what I figured, the phone calls were under $1.00US a minute. So what it seemed was the longer I talked the price went down per minute,if I am correct a 20 minute call only cost $13.00US.I thought they had made a mistake, but it was not, that is just the way it was.

I have used calling cards before, but sometimes you have to pay a service fee at the hotels and sometimes it is hard to get an AT&T operator.
So, it seems to be a very good deal and now it is my only choice. I hope this helps.

Ccoconet internet and island internet charge 1 usd per minute - it is also cheaper than using a phone card-AT&T/Sprint do not work here -if you use your cc there is a service charge of 13usd plus a ridiculous amount per minute-if you phone from a hotel it is around 5usd per minute-if you use a phone booth everyone hears the conversation-both internet cafes can provide private calls
