We will be staying on AC for 8 nights - arriving mid-day on a Friday (May 28-June 5). For all of our past travels we have always order about $100 worth of the currency for wherever we are travelling to. Do we need to do this for AC? We already know that we have to have US currency to pay for our day of fishing/snorkeling, which we will bring along - but we don't want to carry a bunch of cash for other miscellaneous stuff (drinking, eating, SHOPPING)..so is the rest of funds okay in U.S. travellers checks, or should we have some extra Belizean buckaroos on us? Of course, if they take AmEx we will be racking up the points toward our next trip! Too many more sleeps until we get there!

No need to "order" local currency. US $$ easily spent in BZ, and accepted everywhere...even where AMEX is not. Whenever you break one, epxect to get mostm, if not all your change in BZ, but a mix is not uncommon either. Either currency can be spent on anything. To my knowledge, no one requires US currency as payment.

Your TC are fine.

Go, enjoy, spend!

US $$ accepted EVERY WHERE. Travelers checks are fine to, except in the very smallest of establishments. You might have trouble with the American Express. Visa and MC accepted some places (most hotels, larger resturants, gift shops). What you don't want to do is leave Belize with their money. That is unless you are like me and always carry a Belize dollar bill in my billfold to remind me I get to go back! Enjoy smile
