Kodak is now selling (at Walmart in the US) a disposable camera rated down to 50'. We are going to try one when we come down around the 1st of May. Has anyone else used this particular camera?

it better have a flash...........

We have used the new 50 ft ones - and they take really good photos - of course we weren't 50 ft down though - they are great for snorkeling - we used these in the Grenadines and St. Lucia last year - great photos! They are meant for clear water and snorkeling. They captured the squid, octopus, and many other friends we encountered just off of Palm Island. Enjoy!

I just purchased 2 of these cameras for my upcoming trip to AC. That way, hubby and I can take pictures of each other petting sharks and rays!!

My question is how do you pack these cameras for travelling. If packed in your luggage, do the airport x-rays zap the film? Or do you just carry them in your camera bag and hand them off in going through security?

To NancyO....I stayed at Palm Island last year also (loved it). How does that compare to AC?

I have been told the screening machines for checked luggage will ruin film. I would carry on your cameras. The x-ray machines for carry on won't damage certain speeds, but I would request a visual inspection for all film just to be on the safe side.

I think you're right, KW...the cameras may have to be a carry-on. I might buy one of those film-shield bags just to be sure...

Do not put disposable cameras or any kind of film in your checked baggage. You can put it through the x-ray with your carry ons (that won't hurt it). All of our underwater pictures from Hawaii had a big old stripe down the middle - I've been told that comes from the high power equipment used to screen checked baggage. If you feel more comfortable, you can put all your film in a ziplock bag and hand it to the screener. Don't get a special film bag, no need.

not a tip appropriate for disposables, but I carry lead lined canisters that hold 4 rolls of film each. Take up less room the the boxes, not too expensive and they stop ALL kinds of nasty things. When ya get to AC, toss them in the frig, if ya have one, and film stays cool. Lead lined pouches are cheap too, I just prefer the canister

It's fun too to watch the NTSA guys at the screens trying to figure out what the hell those 5"x2.5" solid objects are.
